The Sweetsop/Sugar Apple tree (Annona squamosa), is a plant in theAnnonaceae native to the Caribbean region and is closely related to the Soursop/Graviola tree.
Sugar apple fruit has a very discrete, sweet-smelling fragrance and the fruit taste is sweet, fragrant and flavourful.
It is used locally as a folk remedy for diabetes and general well being.
A tea of the leaves is drunk for menstrual problems, fever and as a general digestive tonic, a cold remedy or to clarify the urine. The leaf extract is also used in baths to soothe rheumatic pain.
Studies have proven the leaf extracts to contain significant antioxidant power and antimicrobial activity all of which can aid in maintaining a healthy body.
